Helen V. Horvath

Helen Valerie Galgoci Horvath, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2025 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Helen was born on October 16, 2025 in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Fejes) Galgoci.

Helen was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1985, when she moved back from Florida, where she had lived for several years. She was employed for several years at Central Michigan University in the food service department. Helen and her husband also owned and operated the Scotty Restaurant from 1944-1948. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters, and a Eucharist Minister at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility and the hospital for many years. She was a member of the Red Cross Clown Corp with the clown name ‘Nellie”, a member of the Befriender Program, and was honored as Volunteer of the Week with the Morning Sun. She traveled to Hungary, and to Rome, where she saw the Pope. She was a wonderful Hungarian cook, and enjoyed her flowers, especially geraniums, and feeding the birds. Helen was the last of her generation of the Galgoci family.

A celebration of Helen’s life was held on Friday, June 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Chadwick Brown of the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment followed the service in Calvary Cemetery. Friends gathered with the family on Friday from 1-2 p.m. Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory are suggested to the wishes of the family. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen and William Davis of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Randall Warren and his children, Gage and Kayle; Thadeus and Wendy Warren and their children, Buddy (Laurence) and Joshua; Sadie Lalk and former husband Gregory Lalk and their children, Nathan, Kyal, and Kurtis; and Kara Davis and Tony Schoen and their children, Tyler and Andrew; and also several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Laurence Warren and Andrew Horvath, both parents, four brothers: Steve, Emery, Rudy and Walter Galgoci and four sisters: Elizabeth Galgoci, Margaret Graham, Irma Szabo, and Rose Salchert.

A long time family friend, Amy Medford, was with Helen comforting her while she peacefully passed.
